Internet Safety Tips

Using Better and Secure Web Browser You should use better and secure web browser that is built-in with effective phishing filter, fraud protection, content blocking and other security features to protect your online activity. Personally I would recommend you to use Mozila Firefox, Opera or Google Chrome web browsers.   Computer OS and Software Updating Don’t forget to update computer OS system and other softwares frequently, because the updates will patch security holes and fix software bugs. For Windows OS users, you can use Windows Automatic Updates to update the system. Also it’s advisable to uninstall those old softwares that you are no longer needed, this can minimize computer security risk and also save precious computer resources.   Firewall Protection If you are Microsoft Windows user, activate and use Windows Firewall to protect your computer. If not, you can also test to use ZoneAlarm firewall, PC Tools firewall, SunBelt personal firewall or other personal

Connect 2 PCs with a USB-USB Cable

1. Get A USB-USB Cable The first step in connecting the two PCs together is of course to get the USB-USB cable. Now you need to be very careful here ... you need to get the type of cable that is 'bridged'. This means there is a special feature in the cable that allows two PCs to communicate. 2. Installation Once you've obtained the cable, you can hook up the cable and the PCs. First thing you need to do is to install any software and drivers that came with the cable. Most cables should offer two modes of connection: In the link mode , you can freely copy files between the two computers. On network mode , you can not only copy files, but also share folders, printers and an Internet connection. 3. Start Using That Connection If you're using the cable under link mode, you simply access the transfer program provided by the cable software. Open up the program and start transferring your files. If you're using network mode, you need to do the following: Go to the PC with

Things to Do with An Old PC

Donate It One of the best things to do with an old PC? Donate it to your local charity. There are many, many families out there who do not have the luxury of owning even a basic computer system. Do your part to help them get into the world of computers. One important note about donating computers - make sure you clear out and delete any personal information on the drive. Simple deletion is not sufficient - you will need a powerful data erasing tool like Active@ KillDisk - Hard Drive Eraser. Trade It In There are many computer dealers (e.g. HP) which offer trade-in promotions on computers and peripherals. Before you buy a new PC, see if the retailer can offer you any trade-in discounts. As long as your old computer is in decent condition, it can fetch some money. 'Decent condition' usually refers to any Pentium-class notebook or desktop with a hard drive, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Auction It Another option is to sell the computer on eBay or an equivalent auction site. eBay i

About Computer Maintenance and Support

The Original Manufacturer One of the first things to do when you get a computer breakdown is to call the original manufacturer of your hardware. They will offer service and support through a phone line. Some of them are notoriously difficult to deal with - so be prepared to weather some bad service sometimes. Repair It Yourself If you're feeling adventurous and you have the know-how, you can try repairing the PC yourself. In fact, many vendors now give you a choice to repair yourself according to their instructions. Outsourcing This point is more relevant to companies. If you own a business, you can consider outsourcing your computer repairs to a vendor or third-party company. Just be careful in dealing with them - make sure that you write up proper contracts and scrutinize their terms and conditions. Look for Your Friends If you have a friend with good computer background and experience, then you can ask them to upgrade or repair your PC for you. I personally help out with many of

Transfering Data From Primary Hard Drive To A New Hard Drive

Get A Good Imaging Software The first thing to do when you want to transfer data from your primary hard drive to a new one is to get a good imaging program (my favorite is Acronis True Image). Imaging software is very important because it backs up your computer hard drive's data into an image, then enables you to restore it into another hard disk. Perfect for what we're trying to accomplish here. Do A Backup Of Your Data Once you've installed the imaging program, just image the entire primary hard drive into an image. This image can usually be stored on a DVD - I suggest you do that instead of storing the image on a hard drive. Once the backup image is prepared, do an integrity check by seeing if the files you backed up are still there. Good imaging programs like Acronis True Image allow you to explore individual files in a backup image. Restore Data To New Hard Drive Right. Next step is to take that backup image on the DVD, and restore it onto the new hard drive using your

Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) in Microsoft Windows

You can connect computers in your home network to the Internet by using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). The main benefit of this approach is you don't need to buy new router to share Internet connection at home. In order to make it works, you will need a Windows 7, Vista or XP computer set up with 2 network cards with one connects to Internet and the other one connects to home network. This computer can be enabled with ICS feature and is called ICS host computer. ICS host computer will act as a router to route the traffic from other computers to Internet, also means other computers at home can point to this computer as gateway in order to go to Internet. The ICS host computer must be turned on whenever other computers need to access Internet. Here is typical home network that client computers access Internet through ICS host computer. ICS Network If you do not have network switch but all computers are equipped with wireless adapter, then you can set up ad hoc wireless network be

Increase Hard Disk speed in Windows

If you like to increase/optimize your Hard Disk I/O - read/write speed without buying expensive software utilities to do that job or changing the HD, just follow next steps. With doing these steps you will increase Hard disk speed (depends of manufacture and specification, but its worth to try). The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives; however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks. In any case, it won't harm your system, so try it yourself and let me know what you find! Steps: Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the start & then Run command. Expand the system.ini file window. Scroll down almost to the end of the file untill you find a line called [386enh]. Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type Irq14=4096 (note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE) Click on the File menu, then choose Save. Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer. Restart windows! The speed improvement will be noticed just after the system reboots, any system info. software can

Make Bootable USB in Windows 7 or Windows Vista

Now as the computer technology is commonly relying on the USB technology, therefore having a bootable USB is also going to become a necessary item in order to install an operating system (like windows) on your computer especially on Laptops or Netbooks. Even in Netbook, bootable USB is considered as an essential option to have. Bootable USB is also considered an easiest and faster way to install a Windows operating system on any laptop, personal computer or on any Netbook instead of using normal or I must say conventional DVDs for the purpose and it can also be prepared or created with the following very simple steps using Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows Vista: First of all, a USB stick should be plug with your computer and 4GB+ USB is preferable to make bootable universal serial bus If there is any important or useful data stored on your USB then must clear it or save it on other place as your USB would be formatted in this process Now you need to go to DOS mode and should be clicked on
