Installing A Printer

Go to Control Panel Click Printer Option Click Add a Printer Click Add Local Printer Select Port Select The Printer & click Next Click Next Installation Wizard Appears Now The Printer is Successfully Installed You can see your installed Printer icon in printer wizard in control panel

Parity

Even Parity : The sending computer counts the 1's in the data part of the packet ; if the number of 1's is even, the Parity bit is 0 this makes the total number of bits even. Odd parity : This works on exactly the same way as even parity except that the total number of bits must be Odd.

Synchronous Communication

Synchronous Communication sends data blocks at strictly timed intervals that are monitored at both ends. Modems operating at speeds up to 56kbps over standard telephone audio lines are usually synchronous devices.

Asyncronous Communication

Asynchronous &is any data transmission that does not link the two devices with a common data clock. A Signal called a start bit is sent at the beginning of each segment, & a signal called a stop bit is sent at the end, these let the receiving device note the baundries(beginning & end) of a transmission packet. Early PC modems were almost Asynchronous devices operating at speeds of no more than 18,000 bps.

Proxy Server

A computer/modem/software combination that manages Internet traffic to and from a LAN. A proxy server can provide other features, such as document caching & asses control.

Protocol

Protocol is the special set of rules that end points in a telecommunication connection use when they communicate. Protocols exist at several levels in a telecommunication connection. On the Internet, there are the TCP/IP protocols, consisting of: Transmission Control Protocol(TCP), which uses a set of rules to exchange messages with other Internet points at the information packet level Internet Protocol(IP), which uses a set of rules to send and receive messages at the Internet address level Additional protocols that include the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) an d File transfer Protocol (FTP), each with defined sets of rules to use with corresponding programs elsewhere on the Internet.

POTS

POTS stands for "Plain Old Telephone Service" A common term that donates the basic analog phone network as compared to newer digital networks used for packet transfer of data.

ISDN

ISDN stands for "Integrated Services Digital Network" A digital telephone connection like a modem that uses digital links & offers speeds above five times that of an analog modem. The ISDN system is a packet system that can also handle voice communication.

IP address

Internet protocol address: A unique 32-bit address that identifies every network & host on the internet.(A host is athe TCP/IP network interface within the comouter, not the computer itself, a computer with more than one network interface card (NIC) can have more than one IP address, one for each card).

Internet

A worldwide, online netwok that links computer by means of that links computer by means of the TCP/IP (transmission control panel/Internet protocol). Uses Of Internet chat room Activity allowing two or more Internet users to converse in writing in real time. e-mail Service by which messages are exchanged between users of a computer network. online game Video game accessible over the Internet; users can play solo or with multiple players at a distance. home user Anyone can access the Internet from home through an Internet service provider (ISP). educational institution The Internet provides teachers, researchers and students with countless opportunities to research and exchange information. government organization The Internet has made it easy for government departments and agencies to communicate with other organizations and with the citizens they serve.

Download

The act of transferring a file from a remote computer (host) to a local computer (client). When downloading, you are receiving a file.

BBS (Bulletin Board system)

Interactive software that offers the user the ability to log on directly to a remote computer files. Some BBCs offer the opportunity to chat live with other members who are online at the same time. The internet has changed the very nature of BBS software, replacing in with discussion boards.

Baud rate

The number of events changes that occur in one second. It was used as an early measurement of how fast a modem could send data, because, at that time, modems transmitted data at a speed equal to the Baud rate (1 bit per cycle).

Basic Terms

Some Basic Terms Baud rate bps (bit per second) Browser (BBS) Bulletin board system Download Internet Internet server IP IP address ISDN ISP Login to modem POTS Protocol Proxy server TCP/IP Telecommunications Telecommunication software Upload Web master

Modems

A Modem is a peripheral device that enables computers to communicate with each other over conventional telephone lines or cable lines or even without wires. The word Modem comes from combining the words modulator & de-modulator.

Intel 286 processor introduces three new features

Multi tasking ability Virtual Memory support Two operating modes Multi Tasking Ability Multi tasking is the ability of a processor to perform more than one task at any given time. A task is the instruction being executed . In multi tasking the processor is actually executing only one instruction at any given time but it switches so quickly from one task to another that it appears as several tasks are being performed simultaneously. Virtual Memory Support An important feature introduced in intel 286 is the support for the virtual memory. The term "virtual" means "imaginary" or "which do not exist actually". Therefore the term "virtual memory" means "imaginary memory" or "the memory that do not exist actually".It is a technique of using free space on a hard disk to store data or instructions that are not required immediately. Two Operating modes An operating mode of processor is the way a processor accross the system memory Inte

Backup Utility

Back up is used to archives the data to protect it from accidental loss. Go to my computer. select any drive & click properties. click Backup now select the file that you want to backup choose a destination to save the backup click finish. your back up is ready.

Windows Update Utility

It utility patches some latest windows files from internet. Go to security center in control panel Click Automatic updates in security center & click automatic & set time when you want.

Disk Degragmenter

It Defragments your volumes so that your computer runs faster. Go to my computer. select any drive & click properties The box appears like this click Defragment now Select the Drive & click Defragment Defragment starts......

Check Disk

It checks the Errors in our system & try to recover the errors. Go to my computer. select any drive & click properties The box appears like this click check now & click the options and click start.

Disk Cleanup Utility

After cliking that just select thr Drive to Cleanup

Caring of Hard Disk Drives

Avoid rough handling of the Hard Disk Drives (HDD's). This is because rough handling may cause damage to the HDD & these by causing the data loss. Never expose the internal circuitry of the HDD to open air. This may cause dirt or moisture being accumulated on the internals of the HDD that may reduce the lifespan of the HDD. Check that cables are properly connected & sufficent power is being supplied to the HDD. Never move HDD while it is still spinning.

Caring of Monitor

Keep your monitor away from direct sunlight, dust & smoke. Make sure that the monitor has proper ventilation. With your monitor turned off, periodically clean the monitor screen. Use simple cleaning solutions, like standard glass cleaner, & not aerosol sprays, solvents or window cleaning sprays. Never leave unattended monitor powered on for prolonged period of a monitor. Never place any strong magnetic substance near monitor screen. Never place any heavy objects on the top of the monitor.
